Mirage — Earthy Tones
In this work from the Mirage series, the familiar layers of flowing, horizontal paint are deliberately restrained through a more natural, earthy palette. Deep forest greens, rusts, ochres and warm browns gradually rise into softer creams, muted yellows and touches of fresh green, creating the impression of a landscape shifting between shadow and light.
The densely layered drips give the surface an almost geological quality, suggesting sediment, weathered earth and distant horizons without describing a particular place. Flecks of brighter colour appear unexpectedly amongst the more subdued tones, bringing small moments of energy to an otherwise grounded and contemplative composition.
There is a strong sense of transition through the painting. The darker lower section feels weighty and anchored, while the increasingly pale upper layers seem to dissolve into light. Viewed from a distance, the horizontal movement begins to resemble a hazy landscape or shimmering horizon; up close, that illusion breaks apart into individual strands, marks and accumulated traces of paint.
