Lakeside

"Lakeside" is from my series of large format paintings based on light filtering through trees, and landscapes. This one is made up of dabs of colour, in an almost "pixelated" style. It was painted on loose canvas that was pinned to a wall, allowing for the occasional drip of paint. 

This large painting captures the atmosphere of light filtering through trees and reflecting across a quiet lake, translated into a deliberate, pixelated visual language. The trunks rise vertically through the composition, broken into bold, block-like strokes of colour that suggest dappled sunlight hitting bark and foliage.

Cool blues and teals define the water and distant landscape, while warm peach, pink, and creamy yellows illuminate the tree trunks and forest floor. These contrasting tones create the feeling of shifting light—sun breaking through canopy and scattering across both land and water.

The structured, almost mosaic-like brushwork gives the scene a contemporary edge, fragmenting the landscape into rhythmic colour segments. Occasional drips of paint soften this control, adding movement and reminding the viewer of the fluid, organic nature of the subject.

Rather than a literal depiction, the painting conveys the experience of standing lakeside as light flickers through trees—an interplay of reflection, shadow, and colour captured in a bold, modern style.
